is a cultural phenomenon that has spread across the world and has spurred a specialty coffee revolution.

Espresso literally means
In Italian, the word espresso literally means "when something is forced out.

Coffee trees are
cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in equatorial Latin America, Southeast Asia, India and Africa.

More than 500 billion
cups of coffee are consumed each year, making coffee the world’s most popular beverage. The coffee industry employs 25 million people around the world. Green coffee beans represents one of the world’s most traded commodity, after crude oil, followed by gold.

Arabs discovered coffee
but refused to allow fertile coffee seeds to leave their country. However a 17th-century Muslim pilgrim, Baba Budan, smuggled seven seeds out of Arabia and planted them in India. It is said that all the world’s coffee came from these seven seeds.

Coffee was banned
3 times in 3 different cultures: once in Mecca (16th century), once by Charles II in Europe in an attempt to quiet an ongoing revolution and once by Frederick the Great in Germany in 1677 because he was concerned people were spending too much money on the drink.

The amount of caffeine
in coffee depends on the type of beans, how they were roasted, and how the coffee was brewed. Typically, a small 8-ounce cup of coffee has between 65 milligrams of caffeine if it’s instant and 115 milligrams if it’s drip brewed.

Panino e Panini

Panino is a sandwich made from bread other than sliced bread.
Examples of bread types used are ciabatta, rosetta and baguette. The bread is cut horizontally and filled with deli ingredients such as salami, ham, cheese, mortadella, brie, tomato, other vegetables etc and most times served warm after having been grilled.

A precursor of panini appeared in a 16th-century Italian cookbook, but they became trendy in Milanese bars, called paninoteche, in the 1970s and 1980s.
Focaccia is a flat oven-baked Italian bread topped with herbs or other ingredients.
During the 1980s, the term «paninaro» was used to denote a youngsters' culture typical of teenagers supposed to eat and meet in sandwich bars.
A track entitled «Paninaro» appears on Pet Shop Boys' albums «Disco» (1986) and «Alternative» (1995).
